Welcome Home Baby Girl

This newborn photo shoot was a dream. I was fortunate enough to meet this couple when I did their pregnancy photos. They are great to work with and I love getting to watch the transition into parenthood. Check out the highlights from their Maternity Photo Shoot in Atlanta.

A lot of people ask, what should we wear for out newborn photography session? I suggest keeping outfits for a newborn photo shoot simple.

Notice how this sweet baby girl is wearing a cute neutral newborn outfit with a muted floral design. It looks nice with the pattern, but is not overpowering to allow to focus on the details of her precious face. I like an outfit that can show off the toes and fingers as well instead of having them covered up.

This was the guest room in their house, but it got better natural light than the primary bedroom. However, I used the more neutral bedspread from their regular bed on it to make it feel more like their room and for a better aesthetic. It’s these little changes that can make a big difference in the end product. This is why I check out the various rooms and areas in your home when I arrive so that we can create the best spaces for photos. It only takes a minute and a few adjustments, so don’t worry about doing anything ahead of time. I will help tidy or move things around if needed, there is no time for that in your postpartum life!

That is the beauty of the lifestyle newborn photo session, the baby can be awake or asleep and it works. I have the parents holding and snuggling their newborn the majority of the photo session so that the baby is happy, which means everyone is happy.

This sweet baby girl slept throughout the majority of the photo session. She was especially cozy once we swaddled her in the cute Georgia peach blanket! What a peach.

Newborn Photography is all about capturing all the important little details. These are the memories you want to look back on.

Music and Memories | a guest post by local, woman-owned business in Decatur, GA

Music holds so many memories, allowing us to travel instantly back to a different time and place and recall the people who were there with us, much like a photograph transports us to a particular stage of life.

Just sing “No Man Is An Island” and I’m back to Camp Harand. I’m standing in the rec hall, swaying to the last song we’ll sing before the curly haired, heavily made up woman leans into the microphone and says in a soft, smoky voice, “Goodnight, Snow White”. We are dismissed by cabin to walk back to our bunks, youngest to oldest, and since Snow White is the second-to-youngest cabin, we know we’ll be called right after she leans into the microphone and whispers, “Goodnight, Superman”.

Play “Lean On Me” and I’m back at my high school best friend’s house. We’re dancing with total abandon and singing at the top of our lungs, radio cranked up to full volume, only stopping momentarily to peek through the curtains when we hear her Siberian Husky barking, in case her parents are pulling into the driveway.

And this fall, when the first orange and red leaves drift down from the trees, I won’t need any music at all to hear Music Together’s “Leaves Are Falling” in my head. I’ll be back on the playground, pushing my baby in the swing to the same song, in the same season.

It is such a delight to know that Music Together of Decatur classes--music and movement classes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them-- provides not only joy in the midst of young families’ everyday lives, but also holds the power to bring moms and dads, nannies and grandparents, back to these early years of making music together.

Hey there! I’m Monica, and I am passionate about capturing beautiful moments of your growing family. I’d love to celebrate your family through photography.

One reason I specialized in Maternity & Newborn Photography is because these types of sessions have given me some of my favorite photos of my own family. When I had my daughter, we had at home newborn photos taken of our growing family. She was only a week old, and we were overjoyed, excited, and exhausted. At that time we had a toddler and a newborn, and as you can imagine, it was a bit chaotic. But even to this day, they are some of my favorite photographs that we have displayed on our walls. I want you to have these precious pictures that you will cherish forever too.

Do you want someone who understands what it is like to have a newborn baby and the fatigue and worry that can accompany that new role? Do you want someone who knows what a high energy toddler looks like and has felt the stress when they aren’t acting as expected? Do you want someone who is now a mom to three kids and has felt uncomfortable in front of the camera before? I am that someone.

My goal is to make you feel cared for before, during, and after our photo session together.

Since my own experience having babies and getting photos done, I try to take into consideration all that I felt during that postpartum time. It is a time of lots of change and transition, which means things can be overwhelming. I think that getting photos done shouldn’t contribute to this stress. So one of the ways I help my clients feel cared for and supported is by helping them know what to expect and how to prepare for their photo session.

At Home Newborn Photo Sessions are designed to be laid back and calm. It starts with the fact that you can stay in your own home and not have to get up and out of the house for the photo session. I come to you. That way you have all the things you need to care for your baby on hand without having to tote it to a studio or other location. You will be able to feed, change, and care for your newborn in the comfort of your own home. The pace of the session is slow and I follow the lead of how the baby is doing. If we need to take breaks, then we do.

Summer Maternity Photo Session | Outdoor Park in Atlanta, GA

You would never guess that it was a hot July day in Atlanta with (of course) extremely high humidity during this photo session. We did our session in the morning to try to beat the heat and sought out shade, breezes, and water as needed. This lovely couple were champions about looking cool, calm, and collected even in the discomfort of the warmth. Way to go!

This quiet, peaceful pond and garden location is perfect for a laidback photo session. You can feel yourself taking deep breaths and calming the minute you descend the stone steps into the garden area. Plus, the summertime greenery was perfect and add great color to the photos.
