Perfect Pops of Color in this Boho Style At Home Newborn Photo Session with a Decatur-based Newborn Photographer

I really enjoyed photographing this sweet family for an at home newborn photo session. This mama had such a distinct style and I loved to see how her home had tons of special, personal touches throughout their living space, the bold and bright colors she dressed in, the baby’s corner of the room decorated, even the floral swaddle and bright orange bow on baby girl’s head. Bold, bright colors can transform a newborn session, adding vibrancy and energy that enhance the overall imagery. Infusing rich hues with the outfits and swaddles draws attention to the delicate features of the baby, creating a stunning contrast that highlights their innocence. By incorporating these lively shades, the photographs capture the beauty of new life, making each image a captivating keepsake that families will cherish for years to come.

Did you know that all the beautiful indoor photos were taken right next to just one window? I discovered one large window with fantastic natural light in the guest room, and that was really all we needed to create these stunning and memorable pictures. Additionally, they had a magnificent magnolia tree in the backyard of their home, which I used as the primary backdrop for the wonderful outdoor photos we captured together. I love looking around and finding the unique space in your home that will work well for our photo session.

Additionally, during a newborn photo session, flexibility and calmness are key to creating a soothing environment for both the baby and the family. Babies can be unpredictable, and their needs often change from moment to moment. Embracing this unpredictability allows us to adapt quickly, whether it’s taking a break for a feeding or changing positioning to keep the little one comfortable. A calm atmosphere not only helps the newborn feel secure, but it also enables parents to relax and enjoy the experience. There are many things on the to do list when you start to prepare for you newborn baby. And even though pregnancy may feel long, it can go by very quickly. One major item that should be top of the list is to have a maternity photo session. This usually takes place during your late second trimester or early third trimester of your pregnancy.

A Maternity Photo Session is great way to celebrate and document that beautiful baby bump you have worked so hard on.

Here are some highlights from a pregnancy photo session that I took at Cator Woolford Gardens in Atlanta, GA. As you can see, the mother is the focus, but having your partner, other children, and even pets is not only welcomed, but encouraged to join in the session!

Newborn Photos: examples of newborn photoshoot outfits & family photo outfits

You are having a baby—Congrats! You decide you want to get at home newborn photos done with me—hooray! Usually, the next question is, but what do we wear for newborn photos?

I just did this beautiful family’s newborn photos in their home, and they were a great example of what to wear for a photo session. Let’s start with your new, sweet little baby!

Newborn Photo Outfit tips:

• Keep it simple. Your baby is fresh and new and adorable. So keep the outfit simple because everyone is looking at that precious little face anyway.

• A basic onesie is great. It can be white, a solid color, or even a stripe.

• I prefer no footies pjs or things that will cover up their adorable toes and fingers. We want to see and document all those details.

• We can use swaddles or blankets to bring in other colors or patterns if needed.

Now let’s chat about what the parents can wear for the newborn photoshoot:

• The mom and dad went with neutral tops and jeans. This is a great casual look that is perfect in the comfort of your own home.

• The neutral outfits really allowed us to let the nursery decor and colors pop as well as their baby boy in his onesie & swaddle blanket.

• Also notice how the mom’s top is textured and the dad’s top has a muted pattern. These small texture/pattern differences are great for adding some dimension to the photo while still keeping the color pallet neutral.

• Always make sure that no matter what you choose, you are comfortable and confident in the outfit!
